Finally! Looks like it is in pre-production:
Henry Ford VII needs Calvin's help for one last, desperate measure.
I arranged a Bike Movies Lunch today, since it is "Commute Another Way Week" here in Maine and tomorrow is "Bike To Work Day" nationally (not counting San Francisco who of course had to have theirs today just for the sake of not succumbing to The Man's schedule). I modified a Frog and Toad bookcover for the promotional poster, as seen over yonder →
Here are the movies clips I gathered:
Breaking Away - the classic race scene from the Oscar-winning movie where Our Hero finds out His Heroes are not so Heroic as much as they are Jerks
Quicksilver - the classic bike dancing scene from the decidedly non-Oscar-winning Kevin Bacon movie
Bicycle Crashes of the amusing, as opposed to the OMFG, variety
Track Bikes Zipping Around San Francisco - you with the dog, run!
Drag Race NYC - the cringe-inducing crowd favorite
Even The Girls - a short documentary about female NYC bike messengers
Vizzini: INCONCEIVABLE.
Inigo Montoya: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
Last week's game proved a bit tricky, so let's go with some movie trivia this week. The first person to answer correctly will win .... rare postcards from MIT's Snowflake-a-Thon 2005!
The question: In what movie does a soccer ball help in the design of a nuclear bomb?
Post answers in comments. If you don't have a Vox account and would like to play, just let me know and I'll send one your way.
[update] Clue: this movie is from the 1980s
[update 2] Clue: Someone from Sex and the City is in this movie.
In honor of the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie, I present my
ancient Pirates glass. It's at least 20 years old and was given to me to
replace an even older version of the glass that a friend brought me from
Disneyworld (which broke when it was taken out of the hot dishwasher and
filled with ice)..
Went and saw Pixar's Cars at the drive-in last night - seemed like the perfect movie to catch there. I've seen a lot of mixed reviews, but in my opinion it is a quality movie. Good characters, amazing scenery, and some funny stuff. Sure, I liked The Incredibles better but they are very different movies. I'll probably get the DVD when it comes out, so I can get a better look at the animation. As it was, it looked amazing at dusk on a screen full of holes and peeling paint. At the end, there is a scene of cars watching Pixar car movies at a drive-in. Way meta.
And for anyone who thought this wasn't a "good" kids movie, we all had the chance to compare and contrast with the remake of "The Shaggy Dog" with Tim Allen. Avoid that at all costs. The only good three seconds is when Tim Allen as a dog leaps off a bridge onto a bus and yells "To infinity, and beyond!".
